Mayor Montero Slams Fake News Over Streetlight Project in Panglao

Mayor Nila Montero has strongly refuted online claims accusing her of riding on the accomplishments of former Dauis Mayor and now Vice Mayor Marietta Sumaylo regarding the installation of streetlights across Panglao Island.

In a reaction post shared on social media, Mayor Montero addressed allegations made by the Panglaoanon News Blog, which claimed that the initiative to request streetlights from the national government originated solely from Sumaylo and her staff in LGU-Dauis.

The post also asserted that Montero merely edited and re-posted the document to make it appear as her own project.

Mayor Montero clarified that the streetlight project is a joint effort between her and Dauis Mayor Miriam Sumaylo, citing their lobbying with the national government to secure solar lights for major roads across Panglao Island, including the municipalities of Panglao and Dauis.

“Matod pa sa Panglaoanon News Blog ug sa mga Trolls nga gapa katap ug FAKE NEWS… kami ni Mayor Miriam ang naningkamot ug nihangyo sa national nga ma butangan ug streetlights ang tibuok dauis ug panglao,” Montero said in her statement.

She warned the public to be critical of misleading information, especially during the election season, calling out the spread of “bakak ug tumo-tumo nga storya” aimed at tarnishing her image.

Montero also urged residents to verify facts and recognize the collaborative efforts behind the island-wide development projects, rather than be swayed by politically motivated narratives.
